FF: Revival of the Forest News :: More pictures of the hack May 12th, 2003

Yea another update for Revival of the Forest, although this actually should have been updated quite a little while ago I admit -_-. But first, I just wanted to say that I have quit the TEK Hacks romhacking group, and I'm finally operating completely independent. *sigh* It's actually a relief now that I'm through with that. Myself and DarkKnightKain are throwing some ideas around, and we may operate under the Unlocked | Hacks name. *shrugs* meh. Also in news, I'm now officially a Zophar's Domain staff member ^_^ w00t! And that and many other things occupy the main amount of my time this summer. But I'll of course be working on my hacks and the such....slowly but surely ;)

First piece of "news" that comes to mind would have to be my first semi-successful attempt at an ASM hack. Sadly enough, as of right now it is a tad buggy and I'm not even sure if I want it in the final version of the hack. Well I don't know, I guess time will tell...or something like that. So the hack will basically do this: It will change the speed you traverse the Overworld and Town/Dungeon maps according to the class of the first character leading your party. Simple enough. But it was still fun to make as my first hack :)

I'm not sure if I have much else that I can say right now. I haven't really gotten any serious work done in the past week or more, I have been fairly busy. But here are two semi-old screenshots that I can throw on the page. And if anyone has any Questions/Comments/Suggestions of any type about the hack, feel free to drop me a line: Gavin86@email.com

Just a screenshot showing my newly freshened graphics. Nothing too fancy, but I like it.

And once more, just more freshness and level layout.

June 10th, 2003

I just wanted to show some updated pictures of my Final Fantasy hack which is titled "Final Fantasy: Revival of the Forest"

I changed some of the graphics again and added a whole new color to the spectrum. The wall graphics are kinda bad so I plan on making new ones or at least changing them. The first town has been largely upgraded and is now about twice as large. Although the space is mainly open area I think it looks a lot better than before, especially with the newer graphics.

Just a new building I added to the first town on the map.

This is the redone far upper-left corner of the map. I just added more level data on the parts that the emulator will wrap around so this part isn't blank anymore.

I also made some new stair graphics...How fun.

rotf2.gif (10737 bytes)

This is another area where the graphics wrap around. I need to add some water so it doesn't look so odd

rotf3.gif (10403 bytes)

This is where the old entrance used to be. It is now just kinda the Town Proper entrance so to speak. The rest of the map below is all new.

Part of the new bottom portion of the map again where graphics wrap around past the actual map border on the left.

And another one bites the Dust.
Unlocked | Hacks News :: Well, I guess the Site is semi-up now! May 9th, 2003

This is one of the first real updates on the site in a long time. And calling this update a "real update" is actually kind of a stretch. Well, either way: The site is here and there are actually a few sections that you can go into now. Surprise, surprise.

There is the Hacks section, followed closely by the never-working and disorganized as all hell Documents section (which I will put up at a later time with *at least* 95 NES documents I've collected), the programming area ( i can't program much because I'm still learning but i made a few things with the good ol' TI-83+), the Contact page which is worthless, and the Links page that will send you to TEK Hacks.

There are a few hacks in the Hacks section (go figure o_O) but not my most recent project for which I have suspended all my others.

The Newest project is called Final Fantasy: Revival of the Forest and to be honest, even I'm not sure what it will be about >_<

Either way I do have the screenshots from a semi-kinda outdated version of the hack. And since I'm incredibly lazy, I'm going to copy the post I've made on a few message boards to save time :P And many many many things have changed since I posted this. The stuff is just here because I need sleep and I can't stay up and make a new overview of the hack.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Well, here are just some screenshots on the my new hack "Final Fantasy: Revival of the Forest"

This hack is for the most part just starting out and I can now see that it's going to take a hell of a lot of time to complete. I guess in this case slow and steady wins the race? <_<

Well I haven't yet formulated a solid plot, but it will mainly be based on the weakening of the planet and the earth and most importantly "The Forest". "The Forest" where all life is born and eventually returns (or other stupid crap that i can't think of right now)

Kinda like a Great Deku Tree thing i think.

You are a band of elves of varying abilities who set out to save the world, restore The Forest, end world hunger, help old ladies cross the street,...and so on and so forth.

Right now the "HUNT" skill replaces magic and i have added the sorely needed "Bow" to the list of weapons and abilities.

these graphics in the screenshot are all 100% my creation with the exception of the town sprites and character sprites (which have yet to be added but are already created), water fountain object and maybe something that i forgot about. this hack is gonna be a bitch to do since there are so many graphic sets. lots of fun for me, yay :p

This is the select character screen. This hack now supports up to 5 characters instead of four for the names so you don't have to use john, bill, bob, and other shorter ones all the time. (and more importantly MY name now fits

This sadly was not by my own ingenuity, just something i found in ffbytes.

This is just an elder praying in front of a mystic stone type thingy. it is all that remains to link the elves to their past...

Just walking around town...this screenshot displays the new house type objects and these particular ones are the weapon and armor shops. the signs outside the stores display what they are....maybe i'll put in graphics since i have enough room...

don't mind that sign, it was just for a tiny little demo i had made and i forgot to take it out. too much work to make a whole new screenshot just for that. this is the entrance to the town.

i figure i will fit somewhere for the tall character i drew, maybe an enemy, after i clean it up and add some color and stuff. The robot on the other hand....was just because of my strange obsession with robots :P

And that had been my small update. I will have another one really soon with all new stuff from FF: RotF
